Jean Antonello's first groundbreaking book detailing how to get off the cycle of gain caused by dieting. The primer and gold standard for the adaptive approach to normalizing body weight and eating behaviors.
"This book describes how an individual can be forever freed from the traditional diet cycle and its devastating effects on the body and psyche...and it leads to a natural, adaptive, lean body weight" ...Jean Antonello
I don't have an iron will. Far from it. My greatest weakness has been sugar and chocolate. And no matter what I've done I haven't been able to knock the cravings and stop eating it. I'm talking about not just a little candy bar but the giant ones. BUT let me tell you I have been not overeating and not eating near as much junk since I've been doing NT and it has nothing to do with will power at all. Now that I'm fueling my body whenever it wants and needs fuel it no longer is signaling me to "feast" on junk for a quick rush or to overeat because it knows I will feed it when it needs it...I don't have any will power but things are changing and fast now that I understand the priciples of being Naturally Thin.
I can't say enough for how that book has transformed my relationship to food. Yesterday I sat here with a huge chocolate bar. I only ate two small squares and it kind of made me feel gross. I actually didn't want it. So I put it down and left it. Ok, so that is a miracle for me but not because of will power. I'm speaking these words from someone who doesn't ever feel full when eating and can just eat and eat and from someone that consumes large amounts of sugar if I get a chance. To say that I am now knowing what it is to feel full and content when I am and not evereat is amazing much less that I'm not craving sugar like crazy everyday. Yesterday I had a choice to eat some junk in place of my lunch meal and I actually chose to eat a bowl of brocolli. Can you imagine that? I can't. It seems like all a dream and it's not just from eating more quality foods but I think the real key for me has been to eat when hungry. This is very amazing to me and goes against everything I've been taught but IT WORKS! ~Debra S., CA

Breaking Out of Food Jail describes the role that dieting and under eating play in the development of disturbed eating patterns and outlines a plan of escape and recovery from these eating problems. The book discusses all troubled eating patterns including diet cycling, binge eating, bulimia and anorexia. Symptoms of eating disturbances, as well as diagnosable eating disorders are discussed as physiological cycles within the framework of the principles of adaptation. Breaking Out of Food Jail was published by Simon & Schuster, New York, in 1996.
