Welcome to the first edition of my new FitDream eZine! Things have just been exploding around here with new projects PLUS exciting news from students and clients (some of which you'll read about below.) I tell you, opportunities abound - for each of us!
Maybe it's the promise of Spring...OK, so it's still February...yet the blossoms are popping on the almond trees in the valley and some of the birds are returning from their southern migration - I hear them each morning on my walk in the woods.

Things are really cooking in T-Tapp classes at San Francisco State University - in the workouts as well as the laboratory!
As you may know, I am working with the Kinesiology Department Senior Research Seminar group at San Francisco State University while also teaching T-Tapp classes there for students and staff.
Exciting preliminary results - DIRECTLY related to your experience! T-Tapp alignment principles and isometric isolation techniques create a significantly deeper energy demand than similar exercises done WITHOUT attention to T-Tapp principles. OK, you knew it all along, but to a teacher like me, so exciting to see those graphs going wild in the lab!
And we didn't just go by "feel" - we utilized technical lab equipment for analysis. Specifically, yours truly underwent a batter of tests utilizing, electro-myography, or EMG (see image). This utilized placement of electrodes at specific muscle fiber points in the body. Here's how the testing for me was set up:
I was "linked up" with electrodes at 4 specific sites: biceps, rhomboids, quadriceps, and hamstrings. Then I performed 4 reps of various exercises, in a "traditional" fashion, then with T-Tapp forms. Specifically, I performed bicep curls, side lunges, side leg lifts (T-Tapp Balance sequence) and triceps kick-backs. The repetitions performed with T-Tapp principles of alignment and isometric isolation proved performance at significantly higher muscle activation and recruitment than those without implementation of same!
What are the implications of this for you? You can be confident that by utilizing the T-Tapp instructions of functional alignment and isometric isolations that you are indeed creating a greater metabolic workload, increased calorie consumption, and comprehensive training! This means less workout time, more out of what you do, and increased benefit of time spent. All features I love about T-Tapp!

T-Tapp Talk
This is one of the many exciting reports (stay tuned for more in future issues of FitDream Ezine!) from clients and students. This just in from Maria, Academic Tech Consultant at SFSU, regarding her T-Tapp studies:
I've noticed quite a bit of differences. My last menses was finally normal (just a few days and medium). For the past couple of years I've been having problems, namely a menses that lasted for over 2 weeks.
My appetite has also changed considerably, I'm less hungry and have been eating smaller portions. I've also been feeling thirsty all day and have been drinking lots of water. In the past I probably only drank one or two glasses of water a day. I feel like I have better posture and am more aware of my body. This past week I lost FIVE pounds! I hope to reach my 10 percent weight loss in the next two weeks. I've lost 2inches off my hips thus far. I've noticed that the fat under my arms seems to have decreased.
I look forward to doing the program especially when my back is aching or feeling rigid. I feel better and happier over all.

With some discussion recently on our forums regarding this EXcellent hamstring stretch, I thought I'd take some quick snapshots in my bedroom to post as instruction for those who might be wondering, "Just what DOES that stretch look like?"
Hamstrings are chronically a tight muscle area for most of us; regular stretching of same will make a big different in performance, posture, and comfort through the back.
For this stretch, all you will need is something to serve as the stretch strap. It could be an old bathrobe belt, a length of webbing, a karate belt....anything similar will do, as long as it is long enough (see pictures, a yard is plenty) and wide enough (for comfort on the foot).
Start (see picture left) flat on your back, one knee bent, the other leg extended in the air extended directly above the hip. Loop the belt through the arch of the foot. Only bring the leg up as high you can with a straight (not locked) leg. With shoulders back and down, grasp the belt with a hoop shape in your arms (see middle picture). Slowly slid the other leg out directly below you (third picture).
Remember: keep your shoulders rolled down and back and only walk the arms up the belt as far as is possible with that in mind. This keeps the integrity of spinal alignment in place. The "hoop" of the arms allows you to get a strong grip on the stretch while opening up the shoulders in back for the stretch as well.
Gently pull on the belt up to the edge of your stretch. Allow the muscles to relax into the stretch, then invite it in a little bit more. You can also use gentle "pulsing" moves, inviting the extended leg toward you 1/4 inch at a time, repeatedly. Be sure not to overpull or feel like you are "bouncing". It is more like "elongate, elongate..." with each pulse.
Be sure that you are not using the extended leg as leverage to "push" into the stretch; that is actually taking the stretch out of the extended leg, where you want it!
To modify, you can keep position number 1 with the leg bent until you feel you have the flexibility to move into the extended leg.
