Should you drink smoothies when trying to lose weight? Go to To smoothie or not to smoothie? The skinny on blending your fruits and greens for more food for thought.
As if on cue from my “greens, go in and get moving” expose, this charming and deelish video landed in my lap and I couldn’t wait to share it with you.
Now, you know me. If a recipe has more than 5 ingredients, my eyes glaze over.
And Julieanna Hever’s smoothie definitely has more goodies on its roster than my simple Green Drink Resurrection!
Yet when it comes to smoothies and blended salads (as I like to call them), as long as you only need a few seconds to rip greens up and open toss in fruit chunks, I’m in baby!
At quick glance, the plant, fruits, and other sources of phytonutrients that went into Jules’ smoothie included
- greens: collard, kale, dandelion
- seed: for omegas and more: flax, hemp
- fruit: blueberries, cherries, banana, pineapple
Did I miss anything? Watch the video and let me know! The point is, you can use just about anything with color and fiber and come up with a different green smoothie masterpiece every time.

Love it!…a bit more volume of ingredients than we use but all the great ingredients…My husband have been plant basing…..sounds like a new designer drug……for just a few weeks now…I believe I had inflammatory arthritis according to lab results…now pain free…….love this new life…attending seminar in September…getting my plant base nutrition certificate soon……
Way cool Ginette. Maybe I’ll see you in Sept! Are you coming to my call with Julianna?
Thanks for stopping in to post!
Dear Lani
It is times like these that I am jealous, because I am in the Midwest, where ‘Black Kale, Dandelion greens” and “frozen cherries, pineapple, papaya & mango” I wish were available in our stores! I can get Collard greens, flax seed and bananas, blueberries and almond milk. Hemp seed I get shipped to me from an online store. You Westcoast girls and those with WholeFoods stores and living in the cities eat good!!!
We live in the state where corn, cowmilk, soybeans and corn-fed beef are considered essential to the daily diet!!! LOL
I guess ‘some’ of the frozen drink is better than none???
Angel you’re covered! My basic green drink, if you remember, is orange chunks, or pineapple chunks (you can get these unsweetened in the can which I have used AND you can even drain and freeze so they’ll add to the cold thickness!). I’ve never had hemp seed myself so will give that a whirl when I can. And can you get non-purple kale? You’re in baby! Keep it simple and you’re there!
Thanks Angel!
Lani

Sounds like a great recipe….but how many servings is that?
Sherry, the way she just tosses things in and doesn’t tell measures, it’s hard to say! But the nice thing about a plant-based, low fat whole foods diet is that you can let your appetite be your guide. With a smoothie like this, take your time, chew your mouthfuls, and stop before you feel stuffed. It’s a great way to live. Let me know if you try making the smoothie!
Another great addition for the fall months when sweet potatoes of plentiful, is to micro steam them with a little bit of water, and toss the sweet potato in the blender too. (I’ve been doing kale, sweet potato, grapefruit, green grapes, and banana)
